Floods Devastate Morpeth (18/09/2008)
by Brian Gott
The floods that hit Morpeth during the weekend of 6th September have had a devastating effect on householders and businesses. Many people have asked if we have been affected by this catastrophe and we would like to communicate our thanks to all those people that have shown an interest.
Fortunately, due to our location being well away from the river Wansbeck that runs through Morpeth, we were not affected. However our thoughts go out to all those poor people that have. There is a massive project ongoing at the moment to assist those that have unfortunately been displaced from their homes and we are tying to assist as much as possible by helping to manage warehouse space for the storage of donated furniture.
A compilation of images documenting the floods has been compiled by local townsfolk and a copy of this is provided below. If you click the link then click 'Open' in the message box that pops up you will be able to view a Powerpoint slideshow.

It should be noted that 'Bridge Street' shown in the first slide is actually the main high street in Morpeth (the old A1), and as you can see it is totally covered in water!
There is a flood victim disaster fund in place and there is a desperate need for donations of money, second hand furniture and electric white goods. If anybody is interested in making a donation to support the flood victims I would be happy to give contact details.
