Golden Garages Karting Day

The winners of Gott’s Golden Garages awards claimed their prize this week, attending a karting day at the Top Gear Karting centre in Durham.

Four teams took on the endurance race with members of the Autoskills Centre at Gateshead College, W A Whitfield and Gott Technical Services.

Stuart Coates, VDA, paint and electric vehicle trainer/assessor from the Autoskills Centre, which won Gott’s Golden Garages Future Talent Award, quickly earned the speediest reputation flying around the track like something from F1.

Stuart was paired with Brenna Blades, the new female face at Gott Technical Services who took home the “most improved driver” trophy as well as second place with Stuart. She was very happy to be laden with chocolate but she wasn’t quite sure if “most improved” was a compliment or insult!

Steven Kolodziej, winner of Gott’s Golden Garages Best Mechanic, and Dean Campbell from W A Whitfield took third place. We think their youth had the edge over the other competitors who were winging about aches and pains all over after persisting to circle the track as many times as they could!

Cruising gracefully into last place was none other than Ian Gott, director of Gott Technical Services with his teammate and colleague Richard Walker. They blamed it on each other and made excuses about their kart not being up to scratch!

That leaves first place, which was taken by MV trainer/assessor Dan Jude from the Autoskills Centre, teamed up with Riz Osinski from Gott Technical Services. Riz clearly thought winning was all down to himself but what he didn’t know was that Dan drives and modifies rally cars in his spare time!

Despite the flurries of snow outside and the sub-zero temperatures indoors, Dan said: “Excellent fun!” Stuart added: “I really enjoyed the day, great fun and we’ll definitely try to win an award again in Gott’s Golden Garages next year so that we can bring along some of our students to take part as well.”

Best mechanic Steven said: “It’s been a great day and the karting was exciting – thanks very much to everyone at Gott for the prize!”
