Taking the Pressure Off Workshop Safety

Did you know that we can provide drawings and Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) to enable you to comply with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR)?

Pressure gauge, compressed air, PSSR, pressure safety systems, garage equipment, Gott Technical Services

We have been providing this service for major users of compressed air systems for many years.  We help garage managers and industrial businesses take the mystery out of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) by assisting our customers to comply with their statutory duty.

The myth is insurance companies must carry out your statutory examinations, but this is not the case. Best practice is for an independent body to provide this service.  Do you receive an annual charge with a biannual visit?  You are not alone. Some companies will charge annually for the service they provide and attend site every other year.

Not with Gott Technical Services!  With a comprehensive service and annual visits, which are only charged after a visit, we provide value for money to all our customers.  Take the stress out of your obligations and let us lighten the load and take you step by step through your duty and provide a service that is second to none.

Written Scheme of Examination

A “Written Scheme of Examination (WSE)” is a document that details items within a pressure system that necessitate examination by a competent examiner / person.

These items cover a wide range of products and pressure equipment that are installed into a pressure system.

What is covered under a Written Scheme of Examination?

Pressure storage units:

This includes air receivers, boilers, autoclaves, gas cylinders and pressure cookers.

Protective devices:

This includes pressure gauges, safety valves, pipework, level indicators and pressure and temperature switches.

This is NOT an exhaustive list and a competent person must be employed to certify and establish items for inclusion to a written scheme.

What is the purpose of a Written Scheme of Examination?

The written scheme of examination specifies items for examination, a frequency for examination (eg. 6, 12, 24 months) and contain detail as to how the equipment is to be examined. If any special measures are required to prepare the system for safe examination then these would be included.

Do I need a Written Scheme of Examination?

Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations you must have a WSE in place prior to the use of the system. This system would include a rigid vessel and a relevant fluid, mainly gas (Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen, Argon, Steam or compressed air among others), with a pressure at 0.5 Bar or above excluding steam, which is at any pressure.

Below is a video of an air compressor exploding which shows just how dangerous it can be and enforces the importance of complying with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations.
