Sad News

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Chairman and Founder, Brian Gott, who died peacefully on New Year’s Day following a short illness.
Brian, widely regarded as a true gentleman of the industry, founded Gott Technical Services in 1980 after many years working in engineering and sales roles. Born in Liverpool, Brian joined the Royal Navy at the age of 17, serving in the engine room of HMS Eagle. After leaving the Navy, he began a successful civilian career, including positions with Brown Brothers and Stewart Warner, where he became Sales Manager for the Alemite lubricant pumping and fluid handling range. This role led him to relocate first to Essex and later to the North East of England, where he established Gott Technical Services and remained for the rest of his life.
The company’s success was built on Brian’s tenacity and unwavering commitment to customer service—values that were central to everything he did. His dedication to service standards saw him actively involved with the Garage Equipment Association, where he played a key role in developing early Codes of Practice for garage equipment installation, maintenance, and repair. He later replicated this work by forming the Service Committee for The Trade Group, helping lay the foundation for the national garage equipment service network that evolved into Trade Garage Equipment Ltd.
Brian is survived by his son and daughters, Ian, Angela, and Julie. Ian, now Managing Director of Gott Technical Services, shared these words:
“My sisters and I, our families, and our team here at Gott Technical Services, are deeply saddened by the loss of our father, though we are grateful his illness was not prolonged. While he stepped back from day-to-day operations many years ago, I don’t think he ever truly retired—his passion for the business never faded. We worked together for so many years, and I learned so much from him, for which I will always be grateful. People often say this company feels like a family, and that’s because of the values and culture my parents instilled from the very beginning. I strive to continue that legacy in their honour.”
A service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held at Morpeth Methodist Church on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, followed by refreshments at Morpeth Golf Club. The family kindly requests no flowers; instead, charitable donations are welcome. A collection box will be available at the church. Contributions will be shared between the Rotary Club of Morpeth, where Brian was a proud Rotarian and past president, and Vision Northumberland, who supported Brian during his sight loss in later years.
